Research into the Northfields is helped by a family bible, together with the re-use of surnames as Christian names; the children of John and Agnes Northfield included Arthur Davis, Samuel Richmond, John Sangster and Frederick Ernest Kealy.

As far back as we know, the family is based in London, with John and Mary Northfield having a family in London in the 1750s. We have yet to establish a definite link with any of the Cambridgeshire branches.
